Why Do Solar Lights Stop Working

| |

Have you been in trouble due to solar lights? Do your solar lights stop working all of sudden? Are you looking for a reason behind this? We’ve got you covered. There are multiple reasons why solar lights get out of order and most of the time the reason is your solar light not receiving enough sunlight to function properly. However, the other reasons include dead batteries, damaged wires and the list goes on. Gladly fixing the issues related to solar lights is plain sailing and you can even do it yourself at home. Here we will discuss in detail why do solar lights stop working so you’ll fix them easily.

Reasons

  1. Pull Tab

Have you heard this word before? If not then let us explain. Most of the time the solar batteries come with the pull tab that’s an insulator used to protect the batteries. This specially designed insulator is manufactured to prevent damage to batteries during storage or shipping. So what you need to do is to remove the pull tab to fix your solar light otherwise it’ll not work anymore.

  1. Switch ON/OFF

The second most common reason behind solar lights stops working is the light issue. Half of the people don’t know if the light switch is on or off but expect the solar light to get charge and work on time. However, few models do not come with the light switch so if yours is one of them then skip this reason.

  1. Insufficient Sunlight

This is one of the main problems behind solar light gets out of order or stops working all of sudden. We all know that solar lights require sunlight to get charge and work properly. If it doesn’t get sufficient light then it’ll not able to charge completely. Thus as a result the solar light stops working. Placing the solar lamps under shade or roof will not make them able to receive enough sunlight. Make sure to place your solar panel/solar lamp where sunlight directly strikes it so that the light will get charge fully. Mostly 8 hours of charging with direct sunlight are sufficient for the solar lights to work properly.

  1. Dead Batteries

Did your solar light stop working suddenly? It might be due to the dead batteries. Mostly Nickel Metal Hydride Batteries are used in solar light as they are rechargeable that’s why. These batteries are considered long-lasting and work for years. However, with time their performance level decreases. In some lights, the batteries are of lithium-ion as well. With time the batteries lose their capability to hold a sufficient amount of charge and some of them might wear off leads to acid leakage results in damage to solar lights. So you need to check if your batteries are working properly or dead.

  1. Unclean Solar Panels

Solar lights require proper sunlight to work efficiently. When solar panels are covered with dirt and dust a little amount of sunlight reaches them results in batteries not getting charged fully. Debris prevents the sun rays to reach the solar panel and block the panel entirely. That’s why you need to keep a check on solar panels and clean them once a week or even daily to save yourself from this hassle.
