Water leak repair: How to do it:
Water leakage is something that should always be fixed quickly. It is estimated that almost 40% of water consumption in Brazil is wasted in leaks. As we all know, water is not a resource that can be thrown away like that.
A water leak can be a big problem for a home. Even when we don’t realize it, the leak can waste thousands of liters of water and at the end of the month this waste is very expensive.
A faucet leaking a few drops per second is capable of costing almost a thousand reais at the end of the month.
That’s because we’re still talking about leaks that are visible. Some happen in hidden corners of the plumbing, damaging not only the pocketbook at the end of the month, but also the structure and aesthetics of the home.
The hardest part is determining whether there is a leak in a home or not. Usually people only find out when the value on the water bill increases. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out some tests to find out whether or not there is a leak.
How to tell if there is a leak in the plumbing:
The simplest way to determine that there is a leak in the plumbing is to turn off all the faucets and see if the log still considers some kind of measurement. If this happens, there is most likely a leak.
It is also possible to differentiate whether the leak is in the pipe connected directly to the street or if it is in the water tank pipe. For Plumbing Services Contact here
To find out if the leak is in the street plumbing, just close the tap and place a full glass of water on the tap directly connected to the street and farthest from the tap (usually the laundry tap). If the faucet sucks water, then there is a leak in the pipe.
With the water tank it is a matter of observation. Just close the register, check the current water level and wait up to 2 hours without using the taps or flushing. After this time, observe if the water level has decreased. If yes, there is a leak.
Now the problem starts. If the leak is in a pipe, it is probably hidden and this is very detrimental when determining the exact location of the leak.
Plumber has equipment and methods for locating leaks in the pipeline in a practical and fast way. However, it is possible to identify the location of the leak by observing changes in walls and terrain.
- ink resting
- Wall with wet cement or easily loosening
- mold on the wall
- floor or dropping
These are some of the indicators that there is a water leak in the pipeline. In toilets, the best solution is to throw cigarette ashes or coffee powder into the water in the basin. If the ash or dust does not settle to the bottom, the leak is in the toilet.
How to Fix Water Leakage:
Fortunately the hardest part of leaking water is finding where it is. After that, the solution is easy, fast and definitive.
If the leak is in a faucet (the famous drip-drip) the solution lies in the maintenance of the faucet repair (mechanism responsible for sealing the passage of water).
To solve this problem, disassemble the faucet and check the condition of the sealing rubber. If it doesn’t show any defect, just a quick cleaning can solve the problem. If it shows any changes, make the change and the leakage will stop.
In the case of toilets with a coupled box, the simple readjustment of the exhaust valve is enough to eliminate the leakage problem. As for hydra valves, the adjustment must be made by a professional plumber with experience in this type of device.
Fixing water leaks in Pipes:
In the case of cracked pipes, it is possible to stop the leak by replacing the defective area or by purchasing a leak seal kit, which is readily available at home improvement stores.
This kit is made with glass resin or plastic glue capable of sealing the leak completely. Apply the product according to the manufacturer’s specification to repair the leak.
If the pipe is broken, the best option is to replace the defective piece. This can be done simply:
- Cut the piece of pipe that is defective. Try cutting a large piece, about four to six inches long.
- Cut a piece of pipe the size of the one that will be distributed. Cut it a few inches short to make up for the size of the running gloves.
- Wear two weldable pipe sliding gloves. They “plugged” the new piece into the old pipe.
- Iron puts on pipes and sleeves, and fit carefully to avoid breakage and damage.
- Plumbing is often sensitive and needs to be handled with care to avoid major problems.
