The IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an assessment test of an individual’s proficiency in English. It will take place for three reasons, namely studies, work and immigration. There are four sections in the IELTS test. They listen, read, write and speak. The listening and speaking module is the same for both academic training and general education. The total duration of completing an IELTS test is 2 hours and 45 minutes. This will include only three sections: Listening, reading and writing. You will be given headphones and question paper to listen to. In 30 minutes, four sounds will be played. All four will have different aspects, such as a two-person conversation, a monologue on everyday life, a discussion of more than two people and a monologue related to academics.
The 40 questions that will be asked of these recordings will be of various types, including multiple choice, short answers, sentence completion, chart completion, flowchart completion, charts, and tables, notes, summary, highlighting, sorting, and matching.
This will vary for academic and general training. For academic reading, you will be given three excerpts of general interest from books, magazines and newspapers and will be asked 40 questions.
For general training, there will be 3 modules. The first section will contain 2-3 short texts on basic social English derived from advertisements, announcements, leaflets, etc. would contain a short text of general interest as in academic training. For both academic and general training, there will be two writing assignments lasting 20 minutes and 40 minutes respectively. Assignment 2 is worth twice as much as assignment 1. Assignment 1 will be about summarizing pictorial data or describing a diagram for academic training and general education will be a formal letter. Assignment 2 will be the same for both, i.e. for an essay writing that supports an opinion with reasons and examples.
This face-to-face interaction will contain 3 parts and will last about 14 minutes. For the first 4-5 minutes, you will be left to talk about yourself with a few inquiries. The next 3-4 minutes will be about a specific topic, you will be given 1 minute to prepare for it, 2 minutes to talk and the next minutes to answer the questions.
