Your printer can get into error due to various software as well as hardware issues. The printer can get into an error very often but most of the errors can be fixed easily. If the printer is showing offline status, check the printer components as well as the related programs. You can try various manual techniques for fixing the error.
Best techniques to fix printer errors:
Check the printer connection
When the printer shows you the error state; inspect its connection immediately. Take out the USB cable from the printer and reconnect it. Check the printer’s status. If the printer is offline then try to connect it with another USB cord. If your printer and PC/phone are connected via Bluetooth then make sure the Bluetooth is enabled and working on both devices. Now place the printer near to the PC and then give the print command. Today printers also provide the network printing option. Ensure that both devices are connected to the reliable and same network.
Run the printer troubleshooter
If the reason behind the error is unknown then try running the printer troubleshooter. You can run the printer troubleshooter on Windows PC by following the given steps:
Go to the Settings and click on Devices
Choose Printer & Scanners tab
Hit the Printer option and select the Manage button
Hit the Run Troubleshooter option and wait for the process. Now check the results to know the reason behind your printer error.
Repair your printer driver
The printer gets into error when it is unable to understand the commands. This appears when the printer driver is dealing with some errors. If the printer driver is out-of-date; install the latest updates from the internet. If the driver is corrupted then you should repair the corrupted files. Go to the driver and check for the corrupted files. But editing the driver files manually is a bit difficult. You should reinstall the printer driver on your device. Delete the corrupted one and install a driver (make sure you are installing the correct driver) on your computer. Restart the computer to apply the driver changes. Go to the Printer & Scanner and check the printer status.
Remove all the pending print jobs
When your printer has lots of pending jobs and you are giving the new command then also the printer shows an error. When your printer is not working, remove the pending print jobs and then give new print command. Use the given steps to delete all the pending jobs on the printer:
- On the Windows device
- Go to Settings
- Click on Devices then navigate to Printers & Scanners
- Click on Open Queue
- Go to Document Name
Choose Cancel All Documents option and the pending jobs will get cleared. After deleting the pending jobs, give a new command to the printer and check for the error.
Set your printer as the default
The printer can get into error when you are using another printer as default. Select the required printer as default and then check for the error. Here are the steps to set the printer as default:
- Click on the Start button
- Select the Setting tab
- Go to the Devices
- Click on the Printers & Scanners folder
- You will see the list of available devices
- Right-click on the required driver
- Tap on the Set As Default Printer option
- A confirmation wizard may appear
- Click on the OK button
Now whenever the user gives the print command, it will directly transfer to the default printer. Try to print a document and check for the error.
Remove the paper jam
While taking printouts, sometimes the chunk of paper is stuck inside the printer and gets the printer into an error state. You need to remove the paper chunks from the printer. Take out the cartridge and remove the dust and paper chunks from your printer. Now reinstall the ink cartridge on the printer carefully and turn on the printer. Now open a document on your computer and give the printer command. Check whether your printer is taking commands or still showing the error.
