A Guide To Understand Your Tyre Life

| |

You might have wondered from time to time after getting a car for yourself, that how long will it be fine. Well, this is something every owner thinks of and so it is a common question that needs to have an answer. As a car is not one whole body but is made up of different small parts, the longevity of all of those together on average makes up the car life. Tyres being one of the major parts of a car, its life is more important than many other parts. So let us talk about this major portion.

How long should you trust your tyres?

Tyres face a lot of challenges on their path and so struggle much more than any other part of the car or any other vehicle for that matter. This could be the reason for the early wearing of some tyres in case of heavy use while in some other cases of underused Goodyear Tyres Wolverhampton it may not get much soiled or damaged. So how to decide on a proper tyre life when external factors can have such a strong influence on it.

It is true that the longevity of a tyre depends on a number of external factors like tyre use, tyre care and maintenance, driving conditions, driving habit, storage condition, etc. So, it is hard to say exactly what would be the life of a particular tyre without weighing all the factors up close.

But the tyre experts always mention the maximum time a tyre could carry on. After that point tyres become unreliable no matter what their use have been all along and what its factors have been. It is about 5-6 years in an average that tyres are asked to replace; so it can be said that the maximum life of a tyre would be this.

Sources Say

Then there are reports of the European Tyre and Rim Technical Organization (ETRTO) which mentions that tyres can be considered new for about 5 years from the manufacturing date; while other sources reveal that tyres can have a maximum lifetime limit of even 10 years. Now, this shall arise a lot of confusion.

But there is really nothing to get confused about. One shall get better results with their tyre life if proper care is taken throughout of them. Proper care involves checking tyre pressure and tread wear regularly, fixing slight damages without delay.

Tyres that face harsh driving conditions, poor driving and no care at all, are prone to die out long before their time. In fact, using tyres in an appropriate climate is another important factor that influences its life. If you drive for a long time with underinflated tyres or overinflated tyres, both cases shall affect your car tyre life.

But there is an expiry date of everything and the same rule applies for your Tyres Wolverhampton too. After it reaches its expiration point, whether it has any faults or not, whether it has been used much or not, it should not be used in any way. This is because it becomes dangerous after this point and shall disintegrate on further use all of a sudden.

Find out the Manufacturing Date

While all the tyres seem plain and simple to the naked eye, each one has a DOT code engraved on its sidewall. DOT markings are an alphanumeric string that consists of tyre manufacturing details and the date. The last four digits of this code is a vital part for the owner to understand the date of manufacturing. So if you find the digits going as 4319, the first two digits indicate the number of weeks it was made in; i.e, in this case, it says that the tyre was made in the 43rd week of the year. The last two digits stand for the year 2019. This is how one shall find out the birth date of their tyres and which shall make it easier to have an estimate of the maximum days it shall live before replacement.
