Are 4×4 tyres different From Standard tyres?

- The difference with Regular Tyres
One of the major observations while distinguishing between a 4×4 and a regular tyre is the tread construction and the purpose. The 4×4 tyres have a deeper tread construction with wider gaps in between the tread patterns to specifically allow them to retain friction on adverse conditions. - 4×4 Off-road tyres
Specifically designed for off-terrain surfaces, 4×4 tyres feature comparatively larger tread depths. These tyres are essentially designed for operating in rough and unpaved road conditions, for instance, a 4×4 SUV tyre has sharp, rugged tread patterns and reinforced sidewalls. The speciality of these tyres is that the deeper is the tread-depth, the harder it is to get clogged up when traversing an unpaved terrain. Moreover, even if the gaps in the tread pattern are filled with dirt and mud, there’s enough rubber in contact with the ground to retain friction. The 4×4 off-road tyres maintain enough contact with the ground all the time, on a normal road surface than a regular tyre.
- 4×4 On-road tyres
These on-road 4x4s have comparatively larger tread-depths than the ones found typically in a rear-wheel or front-wheel car.
